Beti Bachao Beti Padhao slogans  and Abhiyan was started by PM Narendra Modi in 2015 which means “Save girl child, educate girl child ” in English.

Today’s modern India offers a lot of opportunities to women. This is one side of progressing India where on the other side if one looks at gender decline in the sex ratio, the dark side of Indian society comes in front.

As per the India’s constitution, women are legal citizens of the country and have equal rights with men. If we look in the past, in the early vedic period women enjoyed the equal status with men in all aspects of life. As per the 2011 census in India, the sex ratio is 926 in the urban area and 947 in the rural area. (that means number of girls per 1000 boys).
In order to provide more gender equal environment and the protection of girl child, Modi government has initiated the “ Beti Bachao Beti Padhao”. This is a joint initiative of Women and child development ministry, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Ministry of Human Resource Development. It aims towards ensuring survival, protection and empowerment of the girl child.The Scheme would be evaluated at the end of the 12th Five Year Plan to assess its impact and take corrective measure.

Once Jawaharlal Nehru had said, “You can tell the condition of a Nation by looking at the status of its Women.” We hope the condition on women’s status in terms of count and gender equality will be marched ahead with such schemes as one of the strategies including the ending of gender-based violence is also adopted.
